|Pierre Bodo 1953-2015|
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Pierre Bodo on March 5, 2015.
Bodo was a prominent figure of the School of Popular Painting from Kinshasa. His themes included Ndoki Zoba witchcraft and fantastic or symbolic subjects. Later, he would document the phenomenon of SAPE, the Society of Ambianceurs and Elegant People, a sub cultural movement in Kinshasa characterized by lavishly dressed individuals.
Pierre Bodo is one of the most important artists found in the Pigozzi collection, and participated in numerous exhibitions in the most prestigious institutions around the world including the Museum of Houston Fine Art, the Guggenheim Museum, the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco and the Agnelli Foundation in Turin.
